Starring: Salma Hayek as Frida, Alfred Molina, Geoffrey Rush, Mía Maestro, Antonio Banderas, and Ashley Judd. Add this to the Art Lover’s Art Movie Library: Frida
This is one of my personal favorites. Frida is a very good film that visually celebrates the life and art of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. This movie is jam packed with adventure, drama, music, and even creative animation, “The torrid tango danced by (Salma) Hayek and Ashley Judd … is reason enough to see the movie.”

Starring: Andy Garcia as Modigliani
Modigliani is distraught and needs money to rescue and raise his child. The answer arrives in the shape of Paris’ annual art competition. Prize money and a guaranteed career await the winner. Modigliani tackles this work with the hopes of Read more…
Starring: Ed Harris as Jackson Pollock (Radio, National Treasure), and Marcia Gay Harden (Space Cowboys, Mystic River). This is an excellent movie depicting the life of abstract artist, Jackson Pollock. Harris, who directed himself, deserves praise for effectively recreating Pollock’s last years and for learning to actually paint like Pollock. Harris isn’t faking it when he hunches over a blank canvas and splashes paint everywhere. The combination of the energized studio work, the music, and the dramatic acting make for excellent entertainment. A good addition to the art movie library.

Starring: Christopher Walken, Marcia Gay Harden, Morgan Freeman, William H. Macy, and Wynn Everett. Three museum security guards who, over the years, have become attached to the artwork they protect, concoct a plan to “steal” them back when they learn the pieces are being transferred to another museum. Lots of laughs!

An intriguing exploration of the two men’s lives (Henri Matisse, and Pablo Picasso) and the ways in which they continually intersected in their art careers. This film is an encounter with the two pioneers, two adventurers in painting, who opened new frontiers. In spite of their initial rivalry and their very different temperaments, each came to acknowledge the other as his only true equal.

Starring Pierce Brosnan and Renne Ruso. This is a clever, steamy, hot, sexy, movie involving a stolen Priceless Monet painting, a brilliant female investigator, and a bored self-made billionaire who can buy anything. Very entertaining – Fun Ending!

I purchased my copy of, The Artist’s Way” back around 1995, and, despite my skepticism whether the exercises in the book could actually help me as an artist I dove right in and almost immediately found myself thinking, “This is good.” I have met many artists through the years who have had similar experiences with this program. I recommend the book, and the” The Artist’s Way Workbook” as a thoughtful gift for any creative person, because all artists experience “Block” — writers, musicians, visual artists, even dancers. This is a powerful tool.
The one thing that I continue to use that I received from this program is my “Artist Dates”.
